He was predeceased by: his parents, Nathaniel Wheaton and Katherine Wheaton (Holley); his wife Mabel Wheaton; and his son Reginald Wheaton. He is survived by: his children, Nathaniel D. Wheaton of California and Suprena D. Wheaton-Guzman (Leandro) of Lancaster, California; his stepson Deautri C. Denard; his siblings, L. T. Wheaton (Millie) of Okemah, Jimmy Lee Wheaton of Weleetka, Cordell Wheaton (Brenda) of California, Leroy Wheaton of Wichita, Kansas, Ceolia of Boley, Lucy Daniels of Wichita, Pearle Blanche of California, Clara Cross of Wichita and Sandra Dale (Daniel) of Wichita; and his grandchildren, Nikita Stewart, Nathan Wheaton, Nayveon Wheaton, Celiandra Guzman and Candice Guzman. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren.
