He was predeceased by: his parents, Rea Spears (Clifton) and Nolan Spears; his brother Charles Spears; and his parents-in-law, Mary and Clyce Smith.

He is survived by: his wife Sharon Smith; his children, Daniel and Lori; his siblings, Eric, John, Ronald, Donald, Toni, Linda and Tammy; and his close friend Vernon Long. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
