He was loved and cherished by many people including : his parents, Jim Poling and Dorothy Fay Scroggs; his wife Rachel Ruth of Salina, Kansas.; his granddaughter Samantha Poling; his son Benjamin Poling; his former life partner Rachel Poling; his son Sam; his daughter-in-law Sokha; and his grandson Peter.

Gene became a California Certified Nurse Anesthetist and joined the staff at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Fontana, California and even did some teaching at Cal State University, Los Angeles.
