He was predeceased by : his parents, Earl Phipps and Blanche Phipps (Finnell); and his brother John Phipps. He is survived by : his wife Cheryl Mailes Dyer; his sister Joyce Baptiste (John); his children, Sheila Stapley (Larry), Richard Wolf (Daneen), Shawn Phipps and Melinda Palanuk (Rick); his grandchildren, Morgan Pharris, Tyler Nelson, Madison Nelson, Adam Palanuk, Everett Palanuk and Alexa Wolf; and his great grandchildren, Hunter and Abigail Pharris. He is also survived by six nieces and nephews.
Many students were able to pay sports fees or purchase necessary equipment because of donations he made.
