He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, John Fitzsimmons and Christine Fitzsimmons; his wife Carolyn Humpert; his brother Michael Fitzsimmons; his grandson Brian Copeland; his children, Timothy Fitzsimmons, Steven Fitzsimmons and Patricia Copeland; and his siblings, James Fitzsimmons, Marianne Tutandjian and Colleen Findley. He was also cherished by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mt.Angel Seminary.
