He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald N. Koster and Rosemary Koster (Lawson); and his children, Terri Nelson (Rick) of New Jersey and Donald N. Koster III (Jane) of St. Louis. He is survived by: his wife Doris Koster (Silverstein); his daughters, Susan Koster of Kansas City and Kristine Robinson (Glen) of Malvern; his grandchildren, Kristin, Alexander Nelson, Paul Martinez, Matthew, Jonathan, Ethan Robinson, Benjamin and Max Koster; his great grandchildren, Gage, Brayden, Jaxon and Findley Nelson; and his sibling Harold Koster (Joan) of Itaska.
