He was predeceased by: his wife Ruth M. (Koch). He is survived by: his sons, James E. Filer Jr. (Christine) and William T. Filer (Gail); and his grandchildren, Jay Filer III, Miranda Doane (Fred), Kim Giangrante (Al), Nicole, Laura and Ashley Filer. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and extended family.
