He was predeceased by: his parents, John D. Berger and Homesell Berger (Goodall); his former wife Martha (Jenkins); and his son John Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Lydia; his daughter Theresa; his sisters, Ruth Lawrence and Madeline Cartwright; and his grandchildren, Terrell, Jocelyn, Taylor and Terez. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
