He was predeceased by: his wife Sarah; and his sister Dorothy Ward. He is survived by: his children, Linda Drauschak (Max) of Port Allegany, Robert J. Scherer (Jill) of Port Orange and John R. Scherer (Marianne) of Port Allegany; his grandchildren, John R. Scherer Jr., Ellen Scherer, Nicholas B. Drauschak, Nicole L. Drauschak, Sara Nightengale, Andrew Scherer and Rachel Scherer; his great grandchildren, Nolan Drauschak, Liam Drauschak, James Nightengale, Nathaniel Nightengale, Bryce, Finn, Casey and Emmett Scherer; and his grandmother Haler of Des Moines. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
