He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert F. Lyons and Patricia A. Lyons (O'Harrigan); and his sisters, Jean Himes and Linda Troutman. He is survived by: his wife Barbara A. Lyons (Bell); his sons, Jay T. Lyons (Sherri) and Dan (Angela); his sister Ione Potter (Alan); his grandchildren, Kristin and Matt; and his siblings-in-law, Karen Persichini (Carl) of Bethleham and John Bell.
