He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert J. Messner and Lois Messner (Stauffer); and his siblings, John Messner and Maribeth Kreider of Harrisonburg, VA.. He is survived by: his wife Margaret Messner (Miller); his son Sterling Kent Messner; his daughter-in-law Deborah; his grandchildren, Matthew and Madison of Quakertown, PA; and his brother James L. of Shenandoah, VA..

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 26th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the St. Stephen's Episcopal Cathedral (221 N Front St, Harrisburg, PA 17101). The inurnment will be held on Saturday, July 26th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Columbarium.
