He was predeceased by: his father George F. Shafferand Edith Long. He is survived by: his wife Judith L. Bowers Shaffer; his children, Robyn Fisher (Chad) of Westminster, MD and George F. Shaffer III (Ching) of Silver Spring, MD; his grandchildren, Ethan, Gavin, Mason and Chace Fisher; and his sons, Nathan and Tyler Shaffer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org.
