Shirley Kay Reed Obituary
Shirley "Kay" Brownell REED, 88, of Coudersport, PA, died Thursday, July 10, 2025 in her home.
Born May 4, 1937, in Coudersport, she was the daughter of Kenneth F. and Jane A. Gibson Brownell. A 1955 graduate of Coudersport High School, she was employed by Markel Electric Products, Inc., Buffalo, NY. On December 27, 1997, in Falconer, NY, she married Leon Baxter Reed, who predeceased her on January 31, 2019.
Kay was well known for her passion of genealogical research that benefited many people and enjoyed volunteering and being a member of the Potter County Historical Society. She embraced the technological age in the 1980s doing graphic filled newsletters for many WNY organizations. She loved her town of Coudersport and had many friends.
Surviving are: four children, Debra (Joseph) Borer of Friendship, NY, David (Mary) Szczudlik, Jr. of Alden, NY, Michael (Daisey) Szczudlik of Ellenville, NY, and Dennis Szczudlik of Alden, NY; three grandchildren, Elizabeth (Metta) Crouse, Megan (Andrew) Printup, and Shirley Szczudlik; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Julia Bogacki of Gulfport, FL; nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Donald R. "Frog" Brownell and David A. Brownell; her parents; and her stepfather, Claude J. Baker.
A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 19, 2025 in North Eulalia Baptist Church, Coudersport, PA. Rev. Michael C. Reeves will officiate. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.
