He was predeceased by: his parents, Brooks Gavin and Bessie Marshall Gavin; his son Eugene Gavin, Jr.; and his brothers, Willis, James, Percey and Brooks Gavin, Jr..
He is survived by: his granddaughter Da Shayla Gavin of Durham, N. C.; and his siblings, Bessie Gavin of Erie, Annie Allen of North Carolina, John Gavin of Erie and Daniel Gavin of Atlanta. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
