He was predeceased by: his parents, Andrew Samick and Josephine Samick (Lanzel); his daughters, Linda O'Connor and Julie Van Volkenburg; and his brother Robert Samick.
He is survived by: his wife Virginia Samick (Brown); his children, Melvin Samick, Jr. (Yvette) of Huntington Beach, Calif of Erie, Rebecca Hilling (Michael) of Erie and Christopher Samick (Mary) of Erie; his grandchildren, Jeff Van Volkenburg (Julia), Jennifer Beightol (Michael), Joanna Lorei (Craig), Sarah McKelvey, Ryan O'Connor, Benjamin Hilling, Madelyn Hilling and Nicholas Samick; his great grandchildren, David, Julianna Van Volkenburg, Mikey, Julienne Beightol and Calvin Lorei; his stepgranddaughter Brianne; his nephew Michael J. Fox (Kathleen) of Rocky River, Ohio; his great-nephews, Dr. William Fox of Dallas and Daniel Fox (Claire) of Chicago; and his parents-in-law, Stolarski and Hewett.
