He was predeceased by : his parents, Teresa DeFazio (Chiodo) and Santo DeFazio Rich; his siblings, Mary, Josephine, Jenny, Sam, John, Tony, Jimmy and Arthur; his niece Judy DeFazio; and his nephews, Sam Donato (Elmer) and Sam DeFazio (Butch).

He is survived by : his wife Faye DeFazio (Buterbaugh); his children, Richard DeFazio Jr., David DeFazio (Heather) and Kathleen DeFazio; his grandchildren, Kaela Burrows (Ian), Bianca Bishop, David DeFazio Jr. and Conner DeFazio; and his sister Viola Cherico. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and extended family.
