He was predeceased by: his parents, Frederick Nicklas and Frances H. Grichar Nicklas; his daughter Kelly Alters; and his brothers, Fred and Robert Nicklas.

He is survived by: his son Glenn F. Nicklas (Robyn) of Ellwood City; his grandchildren, Easton, Nolan Nicklas, Jacob and Paige Alters; his siblings, Roger Nicklas (Deborah) of Georgia, Patricia Pizer of Zelienople, Nancy Knox (Raymond) of Callery, Evelyn Stutz (John Sr.) of East Butler and Virginia Ortman (John) of Pittsburgh; and his son-in-law David Alters. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
