He was predeceased by: his mother Giovanna Gillenberger Jr.; and his brothers, Kenneth and Jeffrey Gillenberger. He is survived by: his wife Peggy Gillenberger (Vogel); his children, Susan Mercer (Greg) and Chris Rupnik (Michael); his grandchildren, Julia, Jameson, Jordyn Mercer, Calvin and Preston Rupnik; his father Edward Gillenberger; his siblings, Linda Szramowski (Larry) and Mark Gillenberger (Terri); his sister-in-law Alice Gillenberger; and his siblings' children, Matthew, Jeffrey, Alyssa and Scott.
