He was predeceased by: his wife Anne E. Heiss (Woosley); his parents, Lewis Walton and Frances Ellen Heiss, Sr. (Lamborn); and his sister Doris Buchholz. He is survived by: his children, Donna Heiss Widerman (William) and Jeffrey Woosley Heiss (Ginny); his grandchildren, Amy Lignelli (John), Lindsey Kehan (Jeff), Jeffrey W. Heiss, Jr. and James W. Heiss (Carolina); and his great grandchildren, Anna Lignelli, John Lignelli, III, Cecilia Lignelli, William Kehan and Andrew Kehan.
