He was predeceased by: his parents, Niels Nielson and Winifred Nielson (Theyken); and his siblings, Darlene Woodruff, Judy Cadzow and Gail Horn.

He is survived by: his close friend Geraldine Koch; his daughter Cyndi Nielson of Virginia; his grandsons, Michael, Robert and Christopher; and his siblings, Niels Nielson Jr. (Enid), Terry Chuchman and Trudy (late Paul Henthorn).
