He was predeceased by: his parents, Anthony Ackerman and Martha Ackerman (Fenstermacher); and his sister Mae Groman. He is survived by: his wife Dolores "Dee" M. Ackerman (Matz); his children, Guy A. Ackerman (Francesca Bassa) and Thea A. Carey (William) of Wallingford; and his grandchildren, Gordon, Max Ackerman, Kelly and Jenny Carey.
