He was predeceased by: his parents, Gilbert S. Hughes and Clara Meinhardt Hughes; his wife Elinor Fish Hughes; and his siblings, Gilbert, Otto (Dolores), Nelson (Phyllis), Melvyn (Jan), Charles, Howard (Flo), Dale Hughes (Anne), Marion Kramer (Bill) and Edna Perrault.

He is survived by: his children, Pam Gibson (Robert), Thomas Hughes (Kimberly) and Christine Geis; his grandchildren, Brian (Lauren), Brad, Brett, Scott (Kyra), Michael and Megan (Tony); his great grandchildren, Leah and Rocco Moreno; and his brother Gerald C. Hughes (Ruth). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
