He was loved and cherished by many people including : his mother Dolores Kirkpatrick; his children, Erin Turner (Billy), Guy Strong and Amy Moulton (Vincent); his former life partner Linda Burnett-Stills; his brothers, William Smith and Kenneth Smith; his granddaughters, Kimberly Roy (Jay) and Marissa Kirkpatrick; and his great grandchildren, Brianna and Ella Bitzer.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Humane Society in Gene's memory, in honor of his love of animals.
