He was predeceased by: his parents, Peggy Leyland, (Bloomer) and Joseph L. Leyland, Sr.; his stepfather Joseph Bloomer; and his brother Timothy Leyland. He is survived by: his children, Richard J. Leyland (Laney Siau), Melissa L. Toscano (Mike Toscano), Alisha A. Leyland (Randy Shaner) and Lauren N. Gerth; his grandchildren, Jacob, Koryn, Kylee, Kannan Leyland, Leyla, Delaney Gerth, Carina and Michael Toscano; his siblings, Donna, Gerry and Kevin Leyland; and his children, Larry, Ascension, Nascar and Philadelphia Eagles. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
