He was predeceased by: his parent Clifford Merrifield; his son Danny F. Merrifield; and his brother Clifford Merrifield, Jr.. He is survived by: his parent Effie Hilton Merrifield; his children, Myra Spangler of Lock Haven and Richard Merrifield, Jr. (Aleada) of Avis; and his brothers, Willis Merrifield of Avis, Terry Merrifield (Joan) of Lewisburg and Danny Merrifield of California. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and four great, great grandchildren.
