He was predeceased by: his parents, Merle D., Sr. and Leveda Welton (Heffner). He is survived by: his wife Jane; his children, Holly Grate (Ben) and David R. Welton (Iva); his siblings, Donald Welton (Betsy), Larry Welton, Jerry Welton, Karen Welton, Spring Welton and Joy Welton; and his grandchildren, Luke Welton, Rebecca Grate, Rachel Grate, Lorin Grate, Kirk Welton and Clarabrook Welton. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
