He was predeceased by: his parents, Abraham L. Smart and Anna May Smart (Fahnestock); his wife Kathleen Marie Smart (Hayes); the father of his children Patrick F. Smart (Carol Glessner); his grandchildren, Michael Smart (Raina Myers) and Erin Cockroft (Ryan); and his siblings, Anna May Caldwell, Emma Scrima, Mary "Masie" Kennedy, Clayton "Sonny" Smart and Edward Smart.
He is survived by: the father of his children Russell J. Smart (Donna Fogle); his grandchildren, Michelle Smart, Patrick Smart (Amy Palmer), Kelly Dixon (Rob), Emily Stephany (Bryan) and Elizabeth Curley (Brian); and his siblings, Thomas Smart, Mildred "Minnie" Driscoll and Edna Mae Watrous. He is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren.
