He was predeceased by: his wife Mary A. Coon (Mills); and his parents, Oda Lee and William Alice Coon (Wilson). He is survived by: his children, Rebecca A. (Robert Herr) of East Earl, Nancy L. (late William Strause) of New Holland and James A., Jr. (Thelma Coon); and his sister Frances Mahaney of Tell City, IN.. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren.
