He was predeceased by: his wife Thelma C. Ruffing (Meihl); his daughter Janice Greer (late David); his grandson Mark Gaydos; his parents, George Ruffing and Mary Ruffing (Kiefer); and his brother Charles (Betty).
He is survived by: his children, Joseph L. Ruffing, Jr., Cheryl Purpura, Nancy Lauer (Neil), Karen Gaydos (Rick) and Kathy Kruczynski (late Bob); his grandchildren, Michael, Stephen, Lisa, Jeffrey, Daniel, Beth Ann Judy, Andrew Purpura, Sandra, Cynthia Romano, Christine, Kathryn Hoover, Matthew, Joseph Lauer, David Jr., Aimee Coleman, Thomas Greer, Kevin and Sara Kruczynski; and his siblings, Helen Paulick (late William), Marie Donaldson (John), Ralph (Helen), Clara Andrulonis (Richard), Regis (Loretta), George (Frances), Walter (Lois), Rosemary Burry (Robert), James (Margaret), John "Jack" Ruffing and Eileen Wilson (James). He is also survived by 31 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
