He was predeceased by: his parents, Benedict L. Jr and Alice M. Houy, Jr. (Leicher); his sister Janet Houy; and his parent-in-law Ann Cahill. He is survived by: his spouse Maureen Houy (Cahill); his parent-in-law David J. Cahill; and his siblings-in-law, David T. Cahill (Joyce) and Donald P. Cahill (Alice). He is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to the American Lung Association or American Cancer Society.
