He was predeceased by: his parents, William and Edna; and his brothers, Jack and Edward. He is survived by: his wife Melanie; his children, Betsy Vance (James), Bill (Pamela), Charles (Janet) and Tim (Kristie); his stepsons, David Affinito (Allison) and James Affinito (Kelly); and his sister Jeanne. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Rising Tide Program of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum.
