He was predeceased by: his parents, James Rudolph and Louvenia Spruill Howard. He is survived by: his wife Ruth Howard; his siblings, Joyce Howard, Melvin Howard and Annie Boyce (Charlie) of Elizabeth City; and also Aubrey H. J. Mitchell. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
