He was predeceased by: his parents, Dorothy Johnson and Edward H. Epps; and his brother Alvin. He is survived by: his wife Anita Patrice; his brothers, Edward, Gene, Crowder and Jeffrey; and his sons, Gary Gene and Brendan Gabriel. He is also survived by eight nieces and nephews, many grand nieces and grand nephews, three stepdaughters, and two step-grandchildren.
