He is survived by: his wife Mary E. Mamola Mattero; his son Perry Mattero; his brothers, Joseph L. Shields, III and Shawn R. Shields; and his siblings-in-law, Frankie, Joanie and Susie. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
