He was predeceased by : his parents, Robert Shay and Dorothy Shay; his former life partner Deb Shirey Shay; his son Jason Scott Shay; and his brother Larry Shay.

He is survived by : his wife Melissa; his children, Shanon L. Calderone (Stephen) of St. Petersburg, Bridget Deal (Denny) of Volant, Kevin Shay, Amanda of Emlenton, Jon Shay, Jessica of Bruin and Veronica Scott (Mark) of West Sunbury; and his siblings, Daryl, Dave, William Shay and Shirley Fleeger (Richard). He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.
