He was predeceased by: his parents, James Crossan Chaplin III and Gretchen Magdalen Brown Chaplin; his daughter Laura Jennings Chaplin; his former wife Carol Cushing Chaplin; and his sisters, Joan Chaplin Waters and Gail Chaplin Barry.
He is survived by: his pets, Percy, Zorro, Moose, Muscles, Farley and Tupper; his sister Sandra Chaplin McCarthy (Dennis); his son William Craig Chaplin II; his grandson James Hepburn Chaplin; his stepchildren, Elizabeth Preston Mullaugh, Bruce and Nancy Rankin; his stepgrandchildren, Foster, Charlie, Ben, Will, Gordon and Kelly Rankin; and his former wife Tinker Chaplin Whitaker. He is also survived by nieces, nephews.
Donations may be made in Jim's memory to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Sewickley Public Library, or the Sewickley Cemetery Foundation.
