He was predeceased by: his daughter Cathy Jo Grant; and his siblings, Joanne E. Richardson and Clarence W. Mitchell. He is survived by: his spouse Shirley A. Mitchell (Knight); his children, Kelly Jean Mitchell-Clark of Thailand, Rochele L. Knight of Alexandria and Gerald L. Mitchell II of Pennsauken, N. J.; and his close friends, Ulysses "Geech" Ward and Dave Richards. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five nieces; two nephews.
