He was predeceased by: his parent James L. Sr.; his brother Chester Black; and his grandchild Christy Blair. He is survived by: his parent Eva Mae Porterfield Black; his spouse Carla Fraley; his stepchildren, Lisa Bodien, Peggy Sue Bodien and Paul Bodien (Emily) of Warren; his siblings, Rusty Mitchell of Sharon, Peter Black of Sharon, James Black Jr. of Sharon and Sue Ann Lutton (Brian) of Sharon; and his grandchildren, Austin Blair, William Blair, Aiden Stilson, Alex Gill, Leland Gill, William Bodien II and Daja Marie Bodien.
