He was predeceased by: his sibling Buddy Markowitz. He is survived by: his spouse Deborah; his children, Joseph (Moira), Keith and Jennifer Markowitz; his sibling Elaine Schwartz (Philip); and his grandchildren, Hannah, Payton and Benjamin.

In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to the Independence Seaport Museum, 211 S. Christopher Columbus Blvd. Phila., Pa. 19106.
