He was predeceased by: his parents, David E. Thomas, Sr. and Varian Marie Johnson Thomas; his wife Naomi; and his brother Dan Thomas. He is survived by: his sons, Gary W. Thomas (Lorraine) of Centerville, MD, James P. Thomas (Lisa) of Mechanicsville, VA and Gregory V. Thomas (Judy) of Chesterfield, SC. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
