He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles V. Gantz and Anna Gantz; his son Steven J. Rimkis; his brother Charles V. Gantz; and his great grandchild Lleyton Slate.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Ellen Gantz; his children, Joseph R. Rimkis (Pam), George R. Jr. (Theresa), Dr. Robert C. Rimkis (Joan), Charles V. (Tina) and Dr. Valerie A. Biehl; and his siblings, Ronald Gantz (Mary), Barbara Bonavitacola (late John) and Lydia Lill (Ronald). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
