He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Earl Peter De Young and Gerdina De Young (Dekker); his wife Julie Groszman; his children, Drake De Young of Morgantown, Pennsylvania and Lisa De Young Stern (Paul Stern) of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania; his grandsons, Alex Stern of Brooklyn and Ben Stern (Kate Coughlin Stern) of San Francisco, California; his sister Elaine Finley of Westminster, Colorado; his sister-in-law Jacquelyn De Young of Geneva, Illinois; his son Christopher De Young; and his brothers, Jay De Young and Roger Lee De Young. He was also cherished by many nephews and nieces.
