He is survived by: his wife Sandra Roberts Thiel; his daughters, Stephanie Thiel (Ryan VanHorn) and Elizabeth Thiel (Brandon Locke); his granddaughter Charlotte VanHorn; and his sisters, Patricia Stout (Carl), Lake Ariel, Michele Padrusnak (Steve), Jacqueline Koch and Taylor. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
