It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John McNelis of Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, who passed away on September 5, 2025, at the age of 92, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Francis McNelis and Mary McNelis (Dirner); and his brothers, Robert and Francis McNelis. He is survived by: his wife Shirley A. McNelis (Swartwood); his sons, Patrick McNelis (Danette) of Venice, Florida, Michael McNelis (Donna) of Larksville and Kevin McNelis (Renee) of Mansfield, Texas.; his grandchildren, Matthew, Brian, Amy, Jonathan and Ian McNelis; and his siblings-in-law, Maria McNelis, Constance Swartwood and Eugene J. Swartwood. He is also survived by his sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren.
Viewing was held on Sunday, September 14th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc. (625 N Main St, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18705). A funeral service was held on Monday, September 15th 2025 at 8:45 AM at the same location. A funeral Mass was held on Monday, September 15th 2025 at 9:30 AM at the Bernardine Hall of Saints Peter and Paul Parish (13 Hudson Rd, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18705).
