He was predeceased by: his spouse Charlotte L. Nelson (Taylor); and also Lillian R. Bartlett-Nelson (Albro). He is survived by: his children, Marcia Kempf (Jack), Harold Nelson (Nancy) and Gordon Nelson (Roberta); and his stepchildren, Cynthia Warrender (Roger), Debra Griffin (Gary) and Robert W. Bartlett (Suzanne). He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
