He was predeceased by: his parents, James W. Hammett, Jr. and Kathryn Hetrick Hammett. He is survived by: his wife Priscilla Hoover Hammett; his sons, Brian Joseph Hammett (Nuri) and James Marvin Hammett; his grandchildren, Rowan and Ella Jane Hammett; his stepgrandsons, Daniel and Fernando Rodriguez; his great grandchildren, Sophia, Mia and Antonio Rodriguez; his brother Robert Hammett (Joyce) of Belvedere, SC; his sibling's children, Steven Hammett (Jenny) and Gail Hammett; and his great-niece Abbie Hammett.
