He was predeceased by: his parents, James Redmon and Annie Lucille Cassady Gainey; and his siblings, Curtis Gainey, Tom Gainey and Lillia Baker.
He is survived by: his wife Kathryn Owens Gainey; his children, Mark R. Gainey (Melissa) of Barnwell, Joseph G. Gainey (Janice) of Barnwell and Mary Gail Hubbard (David) of Barnwell; and his sisters, Joan Horton (Donnie) of Bethune, SC and Iris Drasts of Gilbert, SC.. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren.
