He was predeceased by: his parents, Vader D. McGowan, Sr. and Annie Glover McGowan; and his sisters, Marie Amerson, Betty Ann Suber and Lydia Rushton.

He is survived by: his wife Nancy Musgrove McGowan; and his children, Daniel Edward McGowan (Diane) of Blairsville, GA, Vader D. McGowan, III (Trey), Graniteville and Lonie (Percy). He is also survived by 9 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.
