He was predeceased by: his parents, Stephen George and Pauline Supey Kmetz; and his wife Janet Maher Kmetz. He is survived by: his sons, Michael M. Kmetz (Emily) of Summerville, SC and James J. Kmetz (Lynsey) of Charlotte, NC; his grandchildren, Amelia, Jack, Lucile, James, Madeleine and Carter; his son Stephen G. Kmetz, III (Laura) of St. Paul, MN; the mother of his child Lynda Brown; and his sister Pauline K. Makowski of Kingston, PA..

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fisher House Charleston to support veterans and their families in Coastal South Carolina.
