Vivian Ruth (Norris) Shepherd Obituary
Vivian Ruth Shepherd (Norris) passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at the age of 92 in Beaufort, South Carolina. Vivian was born on June 18, 1931 in Windsor, Vermont. Native to New England, she worked and raised her four children in Claremont, New Hampshire, then moved to St. Petersburg, Florida in 1986.
Vivian worked in several retail stores in the St. Petersburg area, with her last job being at Jcpenney‘s, where she met her late husband, Tom Shepherd.
She enjoyed socializing and was a member of the Woman’s Club of Mainlands in Pinellas Park, Florida.
Vivian loved dogs, specifically her late German Shepherd Kelly, her cockatiel, music, red sangria, karaoke, scallops, dining out, cooking, dancing, singing and meeting new people! She was always dressed up and ready for adventure!
Her favorite place was the beach, any beach, freshwater or salt… She spent many days at Lake Sunapee, New Hampshire, and St Petersburg Beach, Florida!
She always had her lipstick at the ready, especially when in the hospital when Drs would make their rounds! She prided herself on looking good and being healthy, loved the spotlight and enjoyed compliments!
Vivian has four Children (Bonita Wreden, Donald Whitcomb, Karen (David) Bishop & Kevin Whitcomb), five Grand Children (Lottie/Eric, Jesse/Jamie, Garrett/Caroline, Tyler/ Soo & Marley/Jami), and thirteen Great Grandchildren (Kenny, Grace, Justin, Faith, Hope, Darby, Miles, Mason, Henry, Francis, Lia & Mina, Maddie)
When she became a fall risk and couldn’t live alone anymore, her Granddaughter Lottie Campenella (Eric Swanson) moved her to Beaufort, South Carolina, where she lived out the last few years to the best of her ability! The kind, amazing staff at The Oaks at Salem Road nicknamed her VIVACIOUS VIVIAN!! She had so much spirit and wit, she is missed greatly!
The Oaks at Salem Road & Pruitt Hospice helped tremendously in the last six months of her care, Vivian truly enjoyed her time with the volunteers and staff that spent time with her.
She also greatly valued the friendship and support of Vicky/Michael Bessinger, Michael/Cindy Campenella, Joey/Patrick Newell and Cheryl/Ken Krywanek and all of her neighbors during her time in Florida.
Vivian wished to be cremated. She loved to travel, so in our travels we will spread some of her ashes in all the beautiful spots we find, as well as during a small ceremony with her friends and family in St Petersburg, Florida the beginning of 2024.
A memorial in her honor will be held November 2, 2023 at 2:00pm at The Oaks at Salem Road, 109 Old Salem Road, Beaufort, SC 29902
Flowers, Cards and Gifts sent to the staff and other residents in Honor of “Vivacious Vivian” are appreciated!
